Generally, a private employer with 50 or more employees is subject to the rules of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). There are specific criteria that employees need to meet before they are eligible for FMLA. Many States, including Vermont have a separate Parental and Family Leave (VPFLA) that needs to be managed as well.
